Things I can help with

• A fact on this site that is wrong, out of date or unclear. Tell me which page and what it says.
• Which tour suits your trip, if the reviews and the full list have not settled it between them.
• Something you found at the gate, on a coach or at a landing stage that contradicts what is written here. Timetables, closure days and inclusions move between seasons and I would rather hear it from you than work it out later.
• A question about the rock itself — the well, the lift, the casemates, who was held here. Seven seasons is a lot of answered questions.

Things I cannot help with

I am an independent guide, not the fortress and not a tour operator. I cannot sell, reserve, hold or refund admission to Festung Königstein; the museum sells its own at the windows and that is the only way in. I cannot change, cancel or move a tour booking either — that goes through GetYourGuide with the confirmation email they sent you, or through the operator named on it.

I also cannot tell you what the fortress will be doing on a specific date. Single closure days appear year to year, events take over parts of the site, and the official calendar is the only thing worth trusting on that. What is published about the hours is on its own page, with the same warning attached.

Before you write

Four questions arrive most weeks and all four already have pages. Do I need to buy a ticket in advance: no, and here is why. Is there a lift: two of them, and one only runs April to October. How long do I need: two to three hours, and what that covers. Was Napoleon imprisoned here: no, he visited for about an hour in 1813 and walked back down.
